Eero Saarinen’s introduction of the Pedestal Series was a radical solution to what he saw as a “slum of legs” problem in chair and table design. Over the course of three years, from 1954 to 1957, Eero Saarinen worked on the Pedestal Series, striving to achieve a perfect balance between art and technology. The optimization of the Saarinen table base was revolutionary but challenging to achieve due to the materials available at the time. Though his first choice was plastic (as he was striving to use a single material), he subsequently used cast aluminum and fiberglass for the chairs.
Our Saarinen tables are an exacting reproduction of the original Saarinen table. Absolute attention is paid to the workmanship of the stone, the unique knife-edge, and base, creating a modern classic table meant to last for years. The Saarinen table base is available in matte white, glossy white, matte black, or glossy black, as well as matte silver.
